We heard from the Program Leader, Kaelia, about the great connections already being made. Since Keeping my Place started in January, almost 20 young people have connected with the program. These include young people self-referring, as well as referrals from real estate agents, support workers and education providers.
Kaelia has been especially heartened by the positive response received from property managers, who are already utilising the program to help young people maintain their tenancies.
So far, the number one reason for referral has been financial hardship, particularly in January when young people were struggling with bill shocks from Christmas.
Kaelia has had invaluable help setting up Keeping my Place by the newly established Youth Advisory Group, who contribute young people’s perspectives and help ensure the program is designed with young people’s needs in mind.
Keeping my Place is generously funded by the Ian Potter Foundation.
