South Australia’s first foyer, Ladder Port Adelaide Foyer provides independent accommodation for 23 young people who want to re-engage with education, or seek training or employment.
Located in the heart of Port Adelaide, Ladder Port Adelaide Foyer is a joint partnership between the Department of Human Services, Ladder and St John’s Youth Services. It aims to provide young people with support and mentoring to develop independent living skills, maintain employment, training and or education and to engage positively with local communities.
Individual case plans
Residents of Ladder Port Adelaide Foyer initially sign a 12 month lease with Housing SA, with support services based on the Foyer model. With the support of a Case Manager, every young person living at Ladder Port Adelaide Foyer constructs their own set of goals, and a team of Case Workers continue to help them achieve these goals.
Case plans focus on employment, training or education and other areas of a young person’s life where they would like help, such as accommodation, independent living skills, health and wellbeing, cultural identity, and positive community connections.
Life skills and community are encouraged
Young people are provided with the opportunity to participate in a range of activities aimed at team work and leadership skills. There are no fixed time frames, rather young people will be transitioned out of the program and into other housing when they identify as being ready to do so.
Ladder Port Adelaide Foyer provides young people with a unique opportunity to work with past and present AFL players and elite female athletes who run group and individual mentoring sessions. This mentoring program is a fun way to develop life skills, self-worth and positive community contribution.
