YHMD at Foyer Port Adelaide

Cheyne Rich MP and The Hon Katrine Hildyard MP with Nicole Chaplin, CEO, and Kylie van Alphen, Foyer Port Adelaide Manager

Foyer Port Adelaide was pleased to welcome Cheyne Rich MP, Member for Port Adelaide, and The Hon Katrine Hildyard MP, Minister for Human Services, Minister for Seniors and Ageing Well, and Minister for Women, to mark Youth Homelessness Matters Day.

The visit provided an opportunity to share how Foyer Port Adelaide supports young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness with safe housing, stable pathways, and opportunities to build independence through education, training and employment.

Youth Homelessness Matters Day is a national day of action that highlights both the scale and complexity of youth homelessness, and the importance of investing in solutions that work. Services like Foyer Port Adelaide demonstrate what is possible when governments and community organisations partner to provide young people with the right support at the right time.

During the visit, SJYS CEO Nicole Chaplin spoke about the importance of sustained collaboration to build on proven models.

“Youth Homelessness Matters Day is about recognising what works and committing to doing more of it. Foyer Port Adelaide shows what’s possible when governments and the community invest early and appropriately — providing safety, stability and genuine pathways forward for young people. The challenge now is to build on these successes so more young people can access support before crisis hits.”

On Youth Homelessness Matters Day, we continue to call for ongoing momentum — strengthening early intervention, expanding access to youth‑specific housing, and ensuring more young people feel safe, supported and hopeful about their future.
