Staying connected to education can change the trajectory of a young person’s life. This role works alongside young people to build confidence, remove barriers and support meaningful pathways into education, training and independence.

St John’s Youth Services is seeking an engaging, motivated and forward-thinking individual to join our team as a ConnectED Navigator.  This is a dynamic, community-based role focused on supporting young people to stay engaged in education and move towards positive future pathways. You will work alongside young people using a practical, strengths-based approach to support their goals, strengthen participation and build long-term independence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The ConnectED Navigator is responsible for:

  • Providing outreach-based support to young people to strengthen engagement with education, training and employment pathways
  • Working alongside young people to assess needs, identify goals and develop achievable plans
  • Supporting young people to build confidence, motivation and routines that enable ongoing participation in education and training
  • Navigating education systems and connecting young people with flexible and appropriate learning options
  • Advocating for young people with schools, training providers and other services
  • Supporting young people to address barriers such as housing instability, wellbeing, transport and access to services
  • Building strong relationships with community partners including schools, RTOs, employment services and youth services
  • Using a strengths-based approach that builds on each young person’s interests, abilities and aspirations
  • Maintaining accurate case notes and contributing to program reporting and continuous improvement

This role is community-based and includes outreach, advocacy and collaboration with a range of partners.

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALITIES

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social or behavioural sciences, or minimum 3 years’ experience in human or community services
  • Experience working with young people with complex needs
  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Working with Children Check
  • Child Safe Environments training
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries

Highly desirable:

  • Experience working in education, training or youth engagement programs
  • Experience supporting young people disengaged from education
  • Experience in outreach or partnership-based roles

Youth Transition Worker (Part time and casual)

JOB DESCRIPTION: SJYS-Youth-Transition-Worker

St John’s Youth Services is seeking a dynamic forward-thinking individual for the following positions:

Youth Transition Worker – part-time & casual positions available.

Responsible for direct support and service delivery in our accommodation support services, Youth110 and Foyer Port Adelaide, 24/7 shift work is an expectation.

Minimum 6 months experience in youth work or social services is required.

  • Responsible to the Manager for providing an environment of care to enhance young people’s social and living skills, and to meet their physical, emotional and developmental needs.

  • Contribute to the delivery of services to young people that facilitate their development and progression towards independence.

  • Meet young people’s Stay Strong Plans.

  • Facilitate age-appropriate independent living.

  • Support developmental aspirations.

  • Encourage personal growth, community involvement, social and recreational activities.

  • Has been found “suitable” under Department of Child Protection Psychometric Testing.
