St John’s Youth Services is seeking an engaging, motivated and forward-thinking individual to join our Keeping my Place (KMP) team as a Youth Transition Worker (Prevention). This is a dynamic role focused on supporting young people aged 17–25 (and their children where applicable), who are at risk of losing their tenancy.

The Prevention Worker uses a practical, strengths-based approach to assist young people build the skills, confidence and habits needed to maintain a safe, stable home and develop independence.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Youth Transition Worker (Prevention) is responsible for:

·       Providing intensive outreach support to young people whose tenancy is at risk.

·       Using a practical, empowerment-based approach to develop independent living skills such as budgeting, communication, cleaning, cooking and personal organisation.

·       Supporting young people to navigate tenancy systems, including lease negotiations, utilities, debt management and advocacy.

·       Using holistic case management to guide young people through their Stay Strong Plan (case plan) goals.

·       Engaging with community stakeholders, such as real estate agents, educational providers, community services and government agencies.

·       Modelling safe, healthy behaviour and challenging unsafe choices when required.

·       Building the capacity of young parents to develop positive routines and connect with child and parent services.

·       Advocating on behalf of young people to improve their housing stability and wellbeing.

This role is based in the community and includes home visits, transport support, advocacy and collaborative work with external partners.

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALITIES
Essential:

·       Tertiary qualifications in social or behavioural sciences, or minimum 3 years’ experience in human/community services.

·       Current Driver’s Licence.

·       DHS Working with Children Check.

·       Child Safe Environments Training.

·       Demonstrated ability to work with young people and maintain professional boundaries.

Highly Desirable:

·       Experience in housing or real estate sectors.

·       Experience developing and delivering small projects or group activities.

Youth Transition Worker (Part time and casual)

JOB DESCRIPTION: SJYS-Youth-Transition-Worker

St John’s Youth Services is seeking a dynamic forward-thinking individual for the following positions:

Youth Transition Worker – part-time & casual positions available.

Responsible for direct support and service delivery in our accommodation support services, Youth110 and Foyer Port Adelaide, 24/7 shift work is an expectation.

Minimum 6 months experience in youth work or social services is required.

  • Responsible to the Manager for providing an environment of care to enhance young people’s social and living skills, and to meet their physical, emotional and developmental needs.

  • Contribute to the delivery of services to young people that facilitate their development and progression towards independence.

  • Meet young people’s Stay Strong Plans.

  • Facilitate age-appropriate independent living.

  • Support developmental aspirations.

  • Encourage personal growth, community involvement, social and recreational activities.

  • Has been found “suitable” under Department of Child Protection Psychometric Testing.
